We’ll Miss You, Chuck
From Our Executive Director, Dr. Chuck Walter
I have been involved directly with the Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for the last 25 years. I have served as a director and all the office’s including President (2003). I also have served as caucus secretary and caucus chairman (9 years).
I’ve seen many changes to oral surgery and to the parent organization AAOMS. The most impressive are changes due to the thousands of hours many of you have given to our specialty and its organizations. I read once that AAOMS was regarded as the most influential health organization in the USA.
I am writing this because for the last few years I have been the Executive Director (ED) of WSOMS, however, with recent changes to our caucus and with the annual meeting going virtual, I can see that the future will be much more reliant on technology. The ED needs to be comfortable with technology and I don’t have that skill set. I’m not overwhelmed by technology but I am challenged by it. Therefore I have decided to resign as Executive Director of WSOMS.
I’ve valued my role as ED and want to thank everyone who has given me so much support over the years. My most precious take away is all the people I have met and the many who’ve befriended me. I also want to encourage members to continue supporting WSOMS because of the ongoing positive influence it exerts in AAOMS and within our specialty.
